Joaquim Torrents, elected Chairman of the Association in its General Meeting of 8 May.
At the 6th Ordinary Meeting of the Telecentre Community, the members adopted the Activity Report and Executed Budget for the previous year and elected the new Board of Managers of the Association that brings together different Networks of Spanish Telecentres and that channels its citizen-oriented training in new technologies. Among these new Managers, Fundación Dédalo (Tudela, Navarra) shall act as President.
The new President of the Telecentre Community Association, Mr Joaquim Torrents, stated that “from Fundación Dédalo this new challenge is welcome with pleasure, responsibility and willingness. It brings an opportunity for the Association to take a new turn in the search for collaboration and cooperation ventures among the networks within the Association."
The new Managing Board of the Association is as follows:
-
Vice-President: Consorcio Fernando de los Ríos (Red Guadalinfo, Andalusia)
-
Secretary: Generalitat de Cataluña (Red Xarxa PunTIC)
-
Treasurer: Basque Country (Red Kzgunea)
-
Vocalías: Provincial Government of Fuerteventura (Red Semilla), Provincial Government of Burgos (Telecentros Burgos) and Fundación Esplai (Catalonia).
The Managing Board will face new challenges, such as telecentre sustainability, employability, accreditation of ICT competences and strengthening its position in Europe as a benchmarking body within Telecentre-Europe, the European Telecentre Association, of which it is a member of the board since 2012.
As for the forthcoming future, Torrents declared that “before us lay different challenges as stimulating as the sustainability of telecentres, people’s employability and the strengthening of our position in Europe as benchmarking body in Spain."
The Association must contribute to improve and increase the services provided by Telecentres and to foster its primary function of promoting the Information Society - its foundational objective since 2008.
Finally, the new Managing Board wishes to thank the rest of networks for their trust and the previous Board for the work they have performed, namely making the association a benchmarking body in terms of methodologies, processes, resources, tools and best practices in Telecentre management, and for positioning Telecentres as a key resource in achieving the Digital Agenda for Europe, i.e. contributing to transform the territory, creating employment and improving the wellbeing of citizens through innovation.
"As representative of the Community of Navarre in the Network, it is a pleasure to take on the Presidency of the Association at this time, when we are celebrating our 10th Anniversary in Tudela" pointed out Torrents when concluding his first speech as President of the National Telecentre Association.
