INTRODUCTION
Internet provides great advantages and opportunities: communication, information, leisure, knowledge, etc. However, organisations need to be aware of the eventual risks it entails and of their eventually serious consequences.
Ensuring a secure use of technology by children and young people is a concern shared by educational stakeholders, i.e. families and teachers. Fundacion Dedalo has launched a campaign targeting minors, parents and teachers, to help them in this process.
OBJECTIVES
Fundacion Dedalo is focusing the activities in three aims:
- Furthering awareness of risks, their origin and consequences.
- Pursuing a greater communication with the child and becoming familiar with their online activities.
- Becoming aware of and taking precautionary measures at home and in school, and encouraging a secure use by children and adults building on knowledge and attitudes.
ACTIVITIES
:: Children ::
It is essential to inform children and young people on the consequences of an inappropriate use of technologies, and to encourage a secure use thereof. Three lectures have been designed according to age ranges:
- 10 to 12 year-olds: “You drive the Internet”, a Workshop.
- 12 to 15 year-olds: thematic workshop on “Social Networks”.
- 16 to 18 year-olds: “Digital Identity”, a Workshop.
:: Parents ::
Awareness-raising measures need to go hand in hand with making information available to parents and tutors – they are in charge of co-educating their children and surveying their use of ICTs.
:: Teachers ::
Teachers are also involved in the development of minors – they need therefore to be aware of the consequences of an inappropriate use of technologies, and the unwanted adverse impact they may have in the school environment.
